Glaucoma is group of disease characterised by an abnormally high intra ocular pressure, optic nerve dystrophy , peripheral filled loss.
Intra ocular pressure less than normal.
Etiology
Increase IOP
Optic nerve dystrophy
Risk factors
Genetic factors
Ageing
Eye trauma
Hypertension
Severe myopia
Ocular surgery
Migraine headache
Clinical feautures
Lacrimation
Photophobia
Corneal edema
Raises iop
Corneal diameter more than 13 mm hg
DIAGNOSIS
history collection
Patient ocular & medical history
Opthalmoscopy
Gonioscopy
Perimetry and visual effects
Treatment
Beta adrenergic blockers
Decrease aqueous humor production
Eg; timolol, betaxolol
Cholinergics
Reduce iop by facilating the out flow of aqueous humor
Eg.; pilocarpine, carbacol.
Carbonic anhydrase inhibitor
Decrease the formation & secretion of aqueous humor
Prostaglandin analogues
Reduce iop, increase uveoscleeal flow
Osmotic agents
Mannitol 20% iv and glycerine 50% osmotic pressure and intra ocular fluid
