Proper installation of a Silt Fence requires digging a trench roughly six inches deep along the designated perimeter contour. The lower portion of the Silt Fence fabric is placed directly into this trench before backfilling and compacting the soil tightly. Wooden or steel stakes attached to the Silt Fence are driven firmly into the ground on the downhill side. Ensuring that the Silt Fence is properly trenched and staked prevents water from undermining the fabric or knocking the barrier down.
