English Spoken – Parts of Speech

Def: PoS – All the English words are divided into 8 groups according to the work they do in a sentence. Each group is called a ‘Part of Speech‘.

1. Noun (N)
2. Pronoun (Pro)
3. Adjective (Adj)
4. Verb (V)
5. Adverb (Adv)
6. Preposition (Prep)
7. Conjunction (Conj)
8. Interjection (Int)

Note: Without using a word in a sentence, you can not tell whether the word belongs to any part of speech.

e.g.

• I love my country.                 (love – V)
• She is my love.                      (love – N)
• This is a fast train.                 (fast – Adj)
• The boy runs fast.                 (fast -Adv)
• He is playing in the field.      (in – Prep)
• Please come in.                     (in – Adv)
