    Electric power is generated by AC generators, also known as alternators, by using electromagnetic induction. This process involves the movement of a conductor, such as a wire, through a magnetic field. When the conductor is moved, it cuts through the lines of magnetic flux, which causes an electrical current to flow in the conductor.

    AC generators work by using a rotating magnet to create the magnetic field. The magnet is connected to a shaft, which is turned by an external power source, such as a steam turbine or a gasoline engine. As the magnet rotates, it creates a changing magnetic field.

    A stationary coil of wire, called the stator, is placed around the magnet. As the magnet rotates, the changing magnetic field causes an electrical current to flow in the stator coil. The current flows through the stator coil and is conducted to the power grid, where it can be used to power homes and businesses.

    The AC part of an AC generator refers to the fact that the electrical current produced by the generator alternates in direction. This is known as alternating current (AC). In contrast, direct current (DC) flows in only one direction.
